Licensing & billing

Licensing and billing

Plans, production projects, invoices, VAT and what happens when a subscription ends.

One key per subscription

Each subscription has one license key. Its limit is the number of production projects of your plan: Solo 1, Studio 5, Agency 25, Enterprise unlimited.

What counts as a production project

A production project is a domain: the host of server.url in your Strapi configuration (or config.licenseDomain). It counts when the server runs with NODE_ENV=production and the domain is not a development domain. Free:

  • your machine and private network: localhost, 127.0.0.1, 192.168.*, 10.*, *.local, *.test
  • a staging domain (staging.*, dev.*, preview.*, recette.*, test.*, qa.*, or NODE_ENV other than production) next to a production project of your plan on the same root domain: recette.client.fr beside www.client.fr

A staging domain with no production project on its root domain is free for 90 days, then it counts as a production project. The plugin also reports the hosts the admin is opened on: a production site declared as localhost counts as production.

Several servers behind the same domain (load balancing, blue/green deployment, a reinstall) are one project. Re-activating the same installation reuses its activation.

Releasing a project

Deactivate a project from its license page in the dashboard. The slot is free as soon as every server of that domain is deactivated.

Invoices and VAT

Every payment produces an invoice in Billing. EU companies with a valid VAT number outside France are invoiced with reverse charge.

Changing plan

Upgrades are charged today, prorated. Downgrades start at the end of the period, and are refused while you use more production projects than the target plan allows.

When a subscription ends

A 14-day grace period keeps everything working, with a banner in the Strapi admin. After it, the plugin stops recording new versions. Versions already recorded stay readable and restorable, and nothing is deleted.
