When Strapi Growth is the better choice

If you already pay for Growth for other features, its Content History may be enough when 14 days of history, edits made in the Content Manager only and whole-version restores cover your needs.

Community plugins

The best-known community versioning plugin was written for Strapi 4 and is deprecated by its authors. For Strapi 5 the choice is between Strapi’s own Content History, a paid plugin and your own code.

When to build it yourself

If you only need a JSON backup of a few content types, lifecycle hooks and a table can do it. Diffs, restores and permissions are where the time goes.
